What is Pre-screening?

In addition to being able to request certain demographic profiling of your survey audience, you can also qualify them with questions as to their suitability for your survey. For example: “Have you ever owned a car?”, “Do you like eating honey?”, “ Did you buy a skirt worth more than JPY10,000 in the last 3 months?”

What size pre-screen audience do I need?

The more specific your targeting, the bigger an audience you need to pre-screen. For our examples, we recommend at least 10-50 times as many pre-screen respondents as the desired final (standard) survey audience.

What if the pre-screen response is less than the number of people I need for the standard survey?

You have four choices:

  • Recommended: Pose your pre-screening questions in such a way that each question does more of a “drill down” on your desired segment. This way, if your niche is too small a sample, you can move up one or more questions to de-focus and expand the survey sample.
  • Defocus your questions and run the pre-screening process again. You will be charged a second time to re-run the pre-screening.
  • Increase the size of the pre-screening audience.
  • Reduce the size of your desired audience for the subsequent standard survey.
